The other day I found myself driving home after dark with Emma in the middle of a torrential downpour. Roads were completely flooded and the sheet of rain falling was so heavy that I could barely see anything. Emma was terrified. To be honest, so was I but I turned around to face her and laughed. I told her that I was an amazing driver and would keep her safe. I told her that she had nothing to worry about. Then I turned back around, bit my lip and held my breath as I started making my way home. By the time I hit the highway (and going about 20 mph on said highway) I was almost in tears freaking out about how bad the conditions were, and then I heard her. Softly and shaky at first and then a little louder, Emma sang “the wheels on the car go round and round….”
She was singing to calm her own nerves but she ended up calming me down more than she’ll ever know.
Thanks kid.
