Who has two thumbs and just mailed out 5 state tax returns. THIS GIRL!!!

Lessons for all of you: 1) move states the first or last day of the year, filing as part year resident sucks 2) move at the same time your spouse does (or both states lived in will require you to file married separately, which if you use a software program like turbo tax and H&R block will require you to set up everything 3 times – to file jointly for federal purposes and separately for you and your spouse), 3) don’t work in a state you don’t live in in the same year you move or that’s one more return on top of it, 4) start prepping your returns more than 2 weeks before they are due – especially if you have crazy work hours and a one year old that occupies most of your time, 5) figure out if your software system has the capability to file your required forms before starting the process…. Or you will need to do EVERYTHING all over again just to file as a part time resident in Hawaii, 6) ignore steps 1-5 and hire a tax cpa…. I will be taking my advice for #6 if I ever move again.
